Ian Ridgley Plays the Beatles’ “Norwegian Wood”
​Can it really be 50 years ago (December 3, 1965) that the Beatles released their landmark Rubber Soul album? The disc marked a number of shifts in group’s creative direction, as their songwriting, arrangements, and production (by George Martin) became more adventurous and sophisticated. To celebrate this milestone, Classical Guitar Magazine are offering a recent video of guitarist Ian Ridgley performing British classical guitarist/composer Mark Houghton’s lovely and leisurely arrangement of the John Lennon-Paul McCartney classic “Norwegian Wood (This Bird Has Flown)” from that opus. “Norwegian Wood” is among the tunes covered by Miloš Karadaglic on his forthcoming CD, Blackbird: The Beatles Album, due in January from Mercury Classics/UMC.
